Hello Prof Kochhar!

Thanks for the information. So Kumbh is Sanakrit for Aquarius!

Now, NASA's web site gives 11.863 years as the time Jupiter takes to go
round the sun. From my calculations, this is around 50 days short of 12
years. Am I missing something here? Are there other astronomical
phenomena to be taken into account here?

Kind Regards,

Jamal

Jupiter. No matter when the celebration is introduced, it would have
been held every 12 years. The Kumbh is the zodiacal sign Aquarius. So,
the mela commemorates Jupiter's return to the same place in the sky.
